When All Else Fails, Conjure

The Rafah border was just opened. Already Israel is saying that al-queda is in the Sinai. The next leap will be to say that al-queda is in Gaza and the Israelis will try to make this connection to achieve a carte blanche from the US to further attack Gaza.

These are conjured phantoms. The Egyptians have an army and it does border security. But the Israelis have pinpointed the number of al-queda terrorists to be at least 400? Where do they get their info? Let's not forget that the Israelis conjure up "evidence" when they want to suit their political and military aims. Let's not forget that the Inspector General of the Pentagon released a report several years ago in which it had determined that Douglas Feith's Office of Special Plans was the source of the faulty intelligence and FALSIFIED intelligence which led the US to war with Iraq. And from what source did Feith's office use for their intelligence? The Israeli intelligence apparatus.

Does anyone honestly believe them now? They play their "fighting terrorism" card almost as much as they play their "holocaust" card to earn legitimacy in their war crimes in the occupied territories. The question remains, will Americans ever learn?

31 Standing Ovations

Yesterday Obama spoke at AIPAC. Today Netanyahu spoke to the US Congress. The US Congress gave 31 standing ovations to a prime minister who leads a country found guilty of war crimes in Operation Cast Lead in 2008/2009. Is there no shame left in the world? 31 standing ovations?! All our politicians line up to address AIPAC and take their money and support. AIPAC spied on this nation several times, most recently with Larry Franklin going to jail and Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman avoiding jailtime because of Jane Harman's duplicitous intervention.

Shouldn't our Congress be concerned with the governance of the US? We got beaucoup problems here, and many Congressional sessions have high absenteeism but not when Netanyahu gives a speech. They gave this man, who 2 days after 9-11 said the attacks were great for Israel, 31 standing ovations. What's wrong with this picture?

With this surreal bastardization of our beloved representative Republic, how can we expect the US to return to greatness?

Obama's Grand Speech

Yet another speech given by a man who can give nice speeches but has serious trouble following them up. We all remember his "landmark" speech in Cairo for which he received a Nobel Peace Prize?! Then he did nothing to implement the key points of the speech. Now he talks about Israel retreating to the pre-June '67 borders, WHICH IS THE OVERWHELMING INTERNATIONAL CONSENSUS. He promptly hosted Netanyahu and let that amoral hawk dictate to him what Israel was going to do, speech or no speech. Whatever happened to stern words offered by real statesmen like Dean Rusk? The linked article gives a nice take by the reasonable and insightful Professor Stephen Zunes.

Amira Hass on the Nakba

Just a fantastic commentary from a truly moral Israeli. After the article, if one is interested, just regard the way in which she is viciously attacked with comments. These comments speak volumes to the true intolerance of certain narrow-minded attitudes that are simply not open to other positions.

Another Israeli Deceit

Israel admits that it unjustly canceled the residency status of West Bank Palestinians between 1967 and 1994.
Of course they also maintain that the occupation, which is illegal under international law, is not a land-grab. Facts like these expose the agenda for what it truly is ; amoral.
But the Israelis have bigger guns, so there you go.

Report on Anti-Semitism

If Anti-Semitic incidents dropped 46% worldwide in the past year, then why does Israel and Jewish leaders worldwide continue to rationalize certain policy positions concerning Israel by claiming that Anti-Semitism is rising?

Perhaps these arguments will be classified appropriately, as red herrings.

Finkelstein's book on the how the Anti-Semitism card is played by Israel (and its various mouthpieces in the US ) when its conduct and policies come into question should be required reading for all students of the conflict.
